Conceptual Designs

Box with slits in between. A replica of the cube lamp in the Inspirational Design post. This model gives an idea of how light travels through the slits and creates 'artificial" light beams at each of the sides. The idea of having the visual effect of those sunlight beams is expressed in this conceptual model.

However, in my opinion i believe that this idea is too straight forward, as the light beams are actually beams projected from the surface and to the viewer. It would be more satisfying to engage the abstract side of this idea.

Simple, isnt it...
The second Conceptual Model
Using Laser cutting technology to create a single template. I then used this shape to recreate shapes that would be pieced together. The following conceptual model is an experimentation of just some of the shapes I am able to produce that follows the theme of the project.

The idea of radiance in light rays remains the dominant factor. The models should have spread features in it. Also, when viewers observe this object, they would need to able to recognise the theme behind it.

The project needs to have aesthetics that is appealing from both afar and up close.

Developmental StagesFrom the previous concept, I have strengthened the idea of radiance and spread of light from the site. The model depicts a source (centre) that radiates light beams in the form of geometrical shapes. This style gives the model a sense of deconstruction-ism and structure that we would not normally associate light with. This model effectively gives light 'shape' and solidity.
The clear plastic material is used to allow sunlight to shine through and create refraction/reflection. The result is a glare within the model that furthermore strengthens my idea.

Art is an...EXPLOSION!
